Chester, Pa. Fireman Arrested on an Indictment Charging Cocaine Distribution

CAMDEN - A fireman with the City of Chester, Pa. Fire Department was arrested today on a one-count federal Indictment charging him with distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced.

Troy Williams, 32, of Chester, was arrested on the Indictment at his fire station this morning by Special Agents of the FBI. A federal grand jury returned the Indictment on Wednesday, Sept. 6. Williams made an initial appearance in federal court today before U.S. Magistrate Ann Marie Donio, who set bail at $100,000 bond secured by his residential property.
According to the Indictment, Williams distributed cocaine in Salem County on Dec. 5, 2005.
The charge of distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
In determining an actual sentence, the judge to whom the case is assigned would, upon a conviction, consult the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide appropriate sentencing ranges that take into account the severity and characteristics of the offense, the defendant's criminal history, if any, and other factors. The judge, however, is not bound by those guidelines in determining a sentence. Parole has been abolished in the federal system. Defendants who are given custodial terms must serve nearly all that time.
Despite indictment, all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Christie credited Special Agents with the FBI South Jersey Resident Agency, under the direction of J.P. Weis, Special Agent in Charge, Philadelphia Division, with the investigation leading to the Indictment.
The Government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Richardson of the Criminal Division in Camden.
