CAMDEN – A Camden man was sentenced to 80 months in federal prison today for committing a string of bank robberies, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced. U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler also ordered Theodore Wade, 33, to pay $8,600 in restitution and to serve three years of supervised release upon the completion of his prison sentence. On Dec. 21, 2006, Wade pleaded guilty before Judge Kugler to four counts of bank robbery. At his plea hearing, Wade admitted that beginning in July and continuing through August 2006 he committed a series of bank robberies in southern New Jersey. During several of the bank robberies, Wade possessed an air pistol and threatened to shoot bank employees if they did not cooperate, he admitted. Wade admitted that he stole U.S. currency from banks as follows: • July 29, 2006 Investor’s Savings Bank, Manchester $6,345 On Aug. 30, Wade was arrested by police officers of the Mount Holly Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office adopted the case for federal prosecution. In determining the actual sentence, Judge Kugler consulted the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide appropriate sentencing ranges that take into account the severity and characteristics of the offense, the defendant's criminal history, if any, and other factors. The judge, however, is not bound by those guidelines in determining a sentence. Parole has been abolished in the federal system. Defendants who are given custodial terms must serve nearly all that time. Christie credited Special Agents of the FBI’s Trenton Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Weysan Dun, and the Mt. Holly Police Department, under the direction of Chief Steve Martin, with the investigation leading to the guilty plea. The Government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen Harberg of the Criminal Division in Camden. – end – Defense Attorney: Maggie Moy, Esq. Assistant Federal Public Defender
