Brick Man Sentenced to 27 Years for Producing Child Pornography

TRENTON, NJ—A Brick man who produced child pornography was sentenced to 326 months in prison today, Acting U.S. Attorney Ralph J. Marra, Jr. announced.

U.S. District Judge Garrett E. Brown also ordered Christopher Rudow, 37, to pay a $5,000 fine and to serve a life term of supervised release upon the completion of his prison term. Rudow has remained in custody since his surrender to law enforcement authorities on Nov. 14, 2008.

Rudow pleaded guilty before Judge Brown on Feb. 2 to a one-count Information that charged the defendant with production of child pornography.

At his guilty plea hearing, Rudow admitted that on various dates between November 2006 and January 2007 he used a digital video camera and a cell phone camera to record a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Rudow admitted that on various occasions he told his14-year-old female victim to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a video-record of her engaging in that conduct.

“Child pornography is an insidious, violent crime,” said Marra. “The damage it does to a young mind and body is incalculable and can last a lifetime. The crime deserves severe punishment.”

Under the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, Rudow faced a sentencing range of between 292 and 365 months in prison. Parole has been abolished in the federal system. Defendants who are given custodial terms must serve nearly all that time.

Marra credited Special Agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Weysan Dun in Newark; Police Officers with the Brick Police Department, under the direction of Chief Rick Bergquist; and Investigators with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford, with the investigation leading to today’s sentencing.

The government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jimmy Kitchen of the U.S. Attorney Office’s Criminal Division in Trenton.
