Child Porn Arrestee Traveled to Enforce “Sex Slave Contract” with Child Victim
NEWARK, NJ—Today, Special Agent In Charge Weysan Dun announced the arrest of Eric Duprey, age 35, on charges of possession of child pornography. The arrest occurred yesterday subsequent to the execution of a search warrant that same day. Duprey is charged with one count each of traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of illicit sexual conduct with a person under age 18 and possession of child pornography.
At Duprey’s residence, 6135 Jefferson Street, 2nd Floor, in West New York, New Jersey, FBI agents and West New York Police officers seized a thumb drive and a compact disc which contained four videos depicting prepubescent children engaged in sexual acts, according to a criminal complaint filed yesterday in District court in Newark. The complaint also reflects Duprey kept a “Sex Slave Contract” in his nightstand, which was signed April 1, 2009 by both Duprey and his Chicago based victim. While executing the search warrant, law enforcement officers also allegedly found airline ticket stubs and a travel itinerary which they believe correspond to travel between Newark, New Jersey and Chicago, Illinois between April 1 and April 4 of this year.
Duprey allegedly obtained his child pornography through peer to peer networks on the internet. The public should be aware of the risks and dangers associated with the use of peer-to-peer networks. Peer- to-peer networks allow users connected to the Internet to link their computers with other computers around the world. These networks are established for the purpose of sharing files and are often free. Users of these networks typically need to install software on their computers which allows them (1) to find and download files located on another peer-to-peer user’s hard drive, and (2) to share with those other users files located on their own computer—including computer viruses and worms. These information sharing networks also tend to be breeding grounds for criminal activity including copyright infringement (i.e., illegal music and movie downloads), computer hacking, and child exploitation and obscenity. Pedophiles tend to prefer these networks because of the anonymity the networks offer.
Duprey had his initial appearance yesterday before the Honorable Patty Shwartz, United States Magistrate Judge. He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals. If convicted, Duprey faces a maximum penalty of 30 years' incarceration for the traveling charge and a maximum penalty of 10 years' incarceration for the possession of child pornography. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed against Duprey.
Special Agent in Charge Weysan Dun commends the Newark FBI agents of the Innocent Images group and the West New York Police Department for the apprehension of Eric Duprey, as well as the Victim Witness Assistance Program at FBI Headquarters for their assistance in this matter. The public is encouraged to research cyber crime and peer-to-peer networks on FBI.gov. As always, anyone with information about a possible federal crime is encouraged to call the FBI at (973) 792-3020. Anyone with information about crimes occurring online should visit www.ic3.gov to report them.
